Compared to rubber mounts, spring mountings have increased static deflection resulting in greater isolation efficiency. This makes them more suitable for critical applications, or for mechanical equipment which have low disturbing frequencies. Spring mounts come in a range of deflections and maximum loads, so that the level of isolation can be accurately selected for each application.
Occupied areas in building can be affected by noise generated in the level immediately above. These noise levels can be significantly reduced by isolating the above floor.
For the highest level of acoustic performance to reduce both airborne and impact noise, consideration should be given to isolating the ceiling below, and isolating the floor on a concrete floating floor, utilizing a mounting system and an airgap.
The concrete floating floor can be constructed on a permanent formwork spanning over high-capacity rubber mounts or poured onto the structural floor under and raised later via an array of special cast-in jacking mounts. Together with an airgap, these options require architects to allow for a greater depth of floor construction.
Typically used for suspended piping and ductwork running from mechanical equipment to prevent vibration transmitting to the surrounding structure. Embelton offers a wide range of Isolation hangers, usually housed in cages and encompassing rubber, spring and rubber/spring combination hangers.
Pad mounts are a low cost isolator, effective for machinery and equipment with higher disturbing frequencies such as small airconditioners, business machines, machines tools, etc. Pad mounts are also an effective isolator of shock.
Shearflex, Supershearflex and Corkrib are the standard Embelton pad mounts, offering static deflection up to 3.5mm. Multiple pad layers, interleaved with metal plates, can be used to offer higher static deflection. All pad mounts can be bonded to flexplates where load spreading is required, or where the machine base is provided with leveling screws. Corkrib has a flatback option when it must be bonded on one side to a flat surface. Corkrib also offers good damping properties.
ImpactaMat rubber acoustic floor underlay can also be used as a pad mount.
Rubber mounts are an efficient, low cost option, offering a reasonable degree of isolation efficiency. Rubber mountings come in single of double deflection and are effective isolators in standard non-critical applications.
For more critical applications, consideration should be given to using spring or air mounts.
Integrated seismic mounts for mechanical equipment are designed to combine spring mount vibration isolation with multi-directional flexible restraint to limit equipment movement under seismic disturbance.
In normal operating situations, the mountings provide vibration isolation generally equivalent to open spring mountings but, when subjected to physical displacements such as those generated by seismic forces, equipment motion relative to the supporting structure is restricted. At the maximum restraint capacity of each mounting type movement is limited to less than 12mm along any major axis.
